Wood is good company. I enjoy to be with all kinds of wood; green wood, old wood, drift wood, etc. The untouched piece itself tells me what to do with it.
I work with wood I cut down myself and all kinds of recycled wood. My work process often consists of glueing smaller pieces together, in this way the sculpture slowly grows until I might start cutting off again. My method leaves cracks that become part of the final piece. Aware of the natural swaying lines in the wood I might paint my table, chair or sculpture. The vibrant demeanor of the wood's shapes and growth rings I strive to preserve in the final result.

HOME ALTAR CABINET

HOME ALTAR CABINET

It opens up and the inside shows. Inside there are room for candles, pictures and precious items. What you keep in the altar is an expression for the work there is to do within.

ODIN ON SLEIPNIR

ODIN ON SLEIPNIR

I have always liked Odin with his magical powers. Not least the story of how he sacrificed his eye for wisdom and rune-reading abilities in Mimer's well. In one way or another, he has always been very present somewhere in my un-consciousness. Despite his reputation as both God of kings - and gods, there is something very human about him.

LITTLE STREAM TABLE

LITTLE STREAM TABLE

An intuitive piece done in wood (chinese water fir). The process includes several phases and only during the very last steps the character of the table stands out. In the little table trickles a source - touches of blue, green and white colors in the wood grain sends a flowing rippling through the table forms. On the table surface the Flower of Life is suggested.

LARCH TREE TABLE

LARCH TREE TABLE

This table is carved from a massive larch tree trunk. It is a simple design which is known from work tables and benches in ancient times. The small table's organic shapes meet a tight argyll pattern painted in red-orange and turquoise-green on the table surface.

DEER HOOF HORN

DEER HOOF HORN

A poetic expression in a piece of wood. Shaped as a deer's hoof and painted golden, its not actually a blowing horn, its more like a story.

ELM TREE CHAIR

ELM TREE CHAIR

You may sit down on the ground, on a stone or perhaps a piece of lumber. If you need a chair with four legs, a seat and a backrest, you can split the log with an axe and glue the pieces together and then have a chair. The chair takes shape as one chip after another are glued on. When the log is gone the chair is finished.

MEDICINE WHEEL TABLE

MEDICINE WHEEL TABLE

Hand crafted symbolically decorated table. The round table is a result of intuitive work with pine, and contains the colors of the four corners of the earth and animal symbols in an American Indian version. EAST – Here everything is love. SOUTH – The ego's base of it's own lust. WEST – The entrance to self-love and pain. NORTH – Love for society.

OKAPI TABLE

OKAPI TABLE

The Okapi Table is an intuitively crafted table made from chinese water fir. The work process is reflected in the table's vivid expression which is like an animal that at any moment can jump and run. The tree's own growing leaves cracks and splits which is included in the overall look of the table.

STORY TOTEM

STORY TOTEM

A poem by stuff we find around us, told and expressed in an unusual combination. Here paint and pictures have been added to meet the colors of the materials.

HOME ALTAR CABINET

HOME ALTAR CABINET

I am interested in sound, and I seek the sound in the materials. Here is an example of a wind instrument done in the wood chinese water fir. It is a nature horn with natural sounds. The starting point is the trunk of the tree, so simple and clear that it speaks directly to its surroundings.

STOOL OF BEECH TREE

STOOL OF BEECH TREE

Once, I took over a workshop from an old glass-cutter/glazier, he came from a family that had cut glass for three generations. A glazier sits down and works all day long, so if anything, he has a great experience with the art of sitting. "For this only beech wood works!" - the glazier tells me "Why?" - I ask. "I do not know, that's just how it is" - he says. This is an example of a glazier's beech stool.

ODIN ON SLEIPNIR

ODIN ON SLEIPNIR

His eight-legged horse Sleipnir, the throne Lidskjalv, the spear Gungner the ravens Hugin and Munin, the gold ring Drapner - all of these testify to Odin's all-seeing and all-knowing personality.

TOWER OF RICHES CABINET

TOWER OF RICHES CABINET

This is a cabinet done in chinese water fir composed of many odd pieces and assembled in a "harmony". On the inside it's decorated with bits of flotsam and other "relic" elements, and makes it reminiscent of a little house altar. On the front is a lightly painted design in white, green, blue and orange.

TREE TRUNK CABINET

TREE TRUNK CABINET

A nature cabinet with hinges, shelves and a door with a handle. As much of the original tree trunk has been preserved so that the whole is solid and durable.

This is a small cabinet made from chinese water fir, done in a simple intuitive process.

I like to paint my work. The deeper I get into the process the clearer I see the colors, shapes and patterns that I seek. The Okapi Table is painted with brown and white color. These are the colors which, along with the tree's own nuances, invite the okapi and the Flower of Life pattern into the table.

SHIP OF THE DRAGONFLY

SHIP OF THE DRAGONFLY

This is a wall sculpture or rather a - manifested poem - composed and carefully constructed from different kinds of wood, sheet metal and rusty iron. A dragon fly behind a piece of cracked glass gives the ship it's name. It is painted in a clear lacquer.

Tasunke Witko represents a vision. One thing is what the legend tells, another is the energy that he represents today.

ODIN ON SLEIPNIR

ODIN ON SLEIPNIR

It was after the voyage of the Sea Stallion to Ireland that I started making the Odin sculpture. I worked in an inside-and-out process where I glued one piece of wood on the other. Then one day he sat there, on his eight-legged horse Sleipnir, who brings him over the rainbow Bifrost and around the different worlds. Odin was manifested exactly as I saw him in my mind. In the midst of the creation process he even came out of the ground in Lejre in the form of a silver figure.

THE COMPUTER

THE COMPUTER

I made this sculpture long before I had my first computer, just from the rumor of it. I had no idea what was inside such a thing, the so-called hardware and software, though the many wires indicate that something is going on in there. Every time I look at this example of creation I am reminded about what has happened in the years between and that slowly a new understanding has crept into our world.
